Padma pulls a Heidi

From National Jeweler.com

Top Chef's Padma cooks up jewelry line

January 29, 2009

New York--Padma Lakshmi, model, actress and host of the Bravo cooking contest show "Top Chef," is adding one more ingredient to her resume: jewelry designer.

Following in the footsteps of supermodel and "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum, Lakshmi's "Padma" line, consisting of delicate gold necklaces, cuffs, earrings, rings and bangle bracelets, is set to hit Bergdorf Goodman stores in May, according to the line's official Web site, PadmaLakshmi.com.

Women's Wear Daily (WWD) reports that the 10- and 14-karat gold pieces are priced between $375-$6,600, and that the Indian-born Lakshmi said cooking ingredients, combined with a dash of her Indian heritage, inspired the look of the line. Pieces include delicate arm cuffs with citrine briolettes, four-row gold cuffs with charms and dangling gold earrings that mimic a sight that is common in any kitchen--fish bones.

Other pieces in the collection include a calla lily charm ring and a handpiece with a ring attached to the chain bracelet.

The Padma line also includes a sub-collection called "Nav," a line based on the ancient Hindu philosophy of balancing a person's life force, known as parna or chi. Nav incorporates the nine essential stones needed to achieve this balance, including sapphires, diamonds and pearls into the collection, which includes colored gemstone bangles and dainty drop earrings featuring all nine navaratna stones.

If anyone knows who to credit for Padma's photo, please contact me and I will give credit to it's source.

Top Chef Season 5 Scores

It was a hell of a "Food"ball game.

Way to go Chef Stefan on your Quick Fire win. We have lost count how many wins you have.

And Chef Carla, you made it to the winners circle with the elimination win. Way to go!

Sorry Chef Jeff. Looks like your season ended too soon. We wish you all the best and hope you drop by our little kitchen any time.
So we are down to 6. Any thoughts of who is going to be the final 2, 3 or 4? We do not know how many are going to the final but with 6 left, we can start to guess.

"I'd Like to Offer My Apologies"

Bravo.com has posted the following from Chef Hosea

Hosea Responds
Jan 23, 2009 2:28 PM

First things first: None of us signed any contracts forbidding contact with the other cheftestants. We did not break any rules.

Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to offer my apologies to anyone who was offended or upset by my actions. It is impossible to explain what life is like under these circumstances to anyone who has not experienced it. It may have been the pressure, the stress, or just the surreal-ness of living in a bubble for six weeks, but sometimes you don't act like yourself. I am an honest, caring, and good person. My dearest friends and family know me for who I am. The public knows me as someone who cheats on his girlfriend. I'll have to live with that. I just hope that anyone out there who is easy to point the finger looks deeply inside themselves and can honestly say they haven't ever wronged someone. Or done something that they're ashamed of. Cast the first stone. Do I regret it? You bet. Did it throw off my game? Of course. Have I thought about it every day since? Yes. What can I do? Nothing. When I returned home, I told my girlfriend - one of the sweetest women on earth - what happened. She was willing to forgive me. Our relationship was never the same. We are no longer together. So I have to live with my mistakes and try and grow as a person from it. I am still very happy that I participated in Top Chef. It was an amazing experience that taught me a lot. I hope that it is my food and not my actions that are remembered once the show is over. I came to New York to cook. I made some great dishes and made some wonderful friends. At the end of the day, it is still all about the food.

Top Chef Week 10 Previews

Are you ready for some "Food" ball?!?!?

That is right TC fans, the Super Bowl is coming up this weekend and nothing goes better with watching football than good food! This week the remaining chefs battle it out in a Super Bowl-themed cook-off against seven all-stars from previous seasons including season four's Andrew and Spike, season three's Camille and season two's Josie! A preview also show us that lovable Miguel from season one is also on the team.

Since the beginning of this season, our own Sous Chef Humor has thought that Fabio and Spike could be twins ( in looks). See them challenge each other in this preview. Click HERE

In keeping with a football theme, click HERE to see Football Squares Top Chef Style, the Quaker Oats Quick fire challenge.

This weeks guest judge is Chef Scott Conant. Take a few moments to learn more about Chef Conant before tomorrow night by clicking HERE.

On a whole different note... oh how we miss are dear Chef Anthony Bourdain. The TV's biggest culinary badass cuts the bull.

Here is a taste of one of the Q&A that we found interesting.

Q: Well, in this time of recession and recovery, everyone's looking to save a few bucks.

AB answer: Keep watching. One of the more interesting things I've read recently is a piece in Esquire about what menus of the future will look like with hard times, you know? It was a positive spin on how we might have to cook: less protein, more starch and vegetables, using meat as more a flavoring agent, as they do in Asia. It was a very provocative piece. And it's something were going to have to think about because, when Wall Street has a cold, it's restaurants that are coughing, sneezing and in fact dying in great numbers. This industry is in for some very, very hard times.

Learn what he thinks of Top Chef and more .Click HERE to read all of his Q&A with MSN

We love and miss you Anthony!!!

Sunday Roast

I can't be the only one annoyed with the whole Leah and Hosea thing, can I? The cheesy porn music during their grope-session was a bit much. But my favorite thing was when Leah said she felt kinda responsible for Ariane leaving. Ya think? I'm giving Hosea a small pass because I feel he's being led around by the short and curly's but Leah knows what shes doing. I will let yall decide if thats a good or bad thing.

Anyhoo, here's the Roast.

Gotta love Fabio.

So do we Toby, so do we.

Your turn.

Top Chef Restaurant Wars Results

Ah... was it a war or a whimper?

With a Quick Fire win for both Chef Leah and Chef Radhika, the two team leaders were picked to run their restaurants.

Way to go Chef Stefan for winning the elimination challenge with your desserts.

But goodbye to Chef Radhika. Since you did not prepare a dish but rather ran the front of the house... your charm did not match that of Chef Fabio. We wish you all the best. Drop by the little kitchen any time!

Top Chef Restaurant War

Tonight the Chef'testants will declare Restaurant War! In this always-anticipated episode, famed restaurateur Stephen Starr (owner of Starr Restaurant Organization) serves as guest judge for both the quickfire and the elimination challenges.

The chefs must create a tasting for Stephen to decide who will be the head chef and “owner” of each Restaurant and for the elimination round, the chef'testants must create every aspect of a restaurant in 24 hours.

When Hosea and Leah are paired up on the same team, their budding relationship heats up – but the pressure is on! Will they be able to put their emotions aside and pull together a successful restaurant in time?

TC Fan Chef TrishDish

This week fellow TC fan and chat room buddy Chef TrishDish provides her GBU review of episode 8.

Good

It was great to see Hung back in the Top Chef kitchen! I've met him a few times - he's such a great guy!

Stone Barns is beautiful and I'd love to eat at the restaurant there sometime. My boyfriend and I love to visit the Lancaster, Pa area and when we do we always eat at the Iron Horse in Strasburg. All of the dishes come from product that was locally grown and everything is so bright and fresh! That's what these dishes reminded me of
Chicken is my favorite protein so for me it would have been Team Chicken plus Carla's dessert - yum!

Bad

It seems like none of the teams worked REALLY well together, although Team Pork came closest. I also do agree with the judges that several people were left to fail on their own!

Stefan - "I am the only cock out here!" Um, as Bethenney Frankel would say, "Holy inappropriateness!

It really is too bad that Ariane did such a bad job butchering that lamb because up until that point she was on a roll! Good luck Ariane! (Does this mean I can go to her restaurant in NJ and talk to her now that she has been eliminated? LOL)

Ugly
It was tough seeing the live lambs, chickens and pigs on the farm (and I am sure the animal activists are ALL OVER THIS), but hey - sometimes reality is ugly and this is exactly how the process goes!

Wow, the rivarly is really heating up between Stefan and Hosea (good thing they each have their own girl in the house - could ya see them fighting over THAT too?!)

Carla, "I can't work with this tension, friction" Why don't you just come out and say sexual frustration? LOL
Thanks Trish!

Sunday Roast

"*Cock,cock,cock. I love it!"

Chicken: I’m a lesbian!

Stefan: Why are all the women I meet lesbians?

Aww, look how happy they are. Too bad Ariane has no idea she is about to get bent over without so much as a slap on the ass or anything.

Stefan: I'm surrounded by cock!

Jamie: So much cock and Stefan is still the biggest dick.

I'm going to cook this pork with nothing but my good looks and perfect hair. We do it all the time in my restaurant.

Stefan: Did you know I love cock?

Chic in hat: Yeah, I heard that somewhere.

Your turn. Think you're funnier then me? Well, you probably are and it's not nice to rub it in. Damn, you're such a bitch!

*Yeah, the Roast is all about the cock. CB is one with the cock. Cock and delicious Diet Dr Pepper. Don't be hating the cock, hate the game.
