Splish Splash - Top Chef Style

"Splish splash, chefs done slinging hash,
Long about a Top Chef night.
All full of grub, just relaxing in the tub,
Thinking everything was alright.

Well, Brian stepped in the tub, put his feet on the floor

Camille slid in next, while bottles began to pour and then

Splish, splash! Hung jumped back in the bath.

Well how was Howie to know there was a party going on.

They was a-splishing and a-splashing,
reelin' with the feelin'
Moving and a-grooving,
rocking and a-rolling, yeah

Hmmm. Chefs and Bikinis!
Who would have thought it?
Oh... we know, our friends over at Bikini Cooks .com

Your turn, write the next set of lyrics

Tim Gunn Is A Top Chef Fan

The wonderful Tim Gunn, from Project Runway, is a Top Chef fan.
Learn which Chef left him in a puddle when they met.
Also his thoughts on his web audience and .... Paris Hilton?!?!.
We love the Tim.

Chef Micah Edelstein Drops By To Chat

Chef Micah dropped by to chat. Welcome to Blogging Top Chef Micah. We are pleased to have you as a guest.

Us: Why did you decide to become a chef?

Micah: Looking back I see it was always in me, my love for cooking, for food, for making food for people to experience and enjoy. I switched to catering because it was the only way I could see to be a full time mother and full time bread winner. Upscale catering meant I did not have to work every day of the week from 9 to 5 so I could do my other job properly. I did not want anybody else raising my daughter through these very important formative years. I knew I could do both. Matilda shops with me and preps with me, and then I go do the events--although I do have some clients that request her attendance. Now that she is getting older, I have more time and am starting to tackle new projects again with growing fervour.

Us: Who are your culinary hero's?
Micah: My culinary hero growing up was Julia! There was and is nobody quite like her.

Us: If not a chef, then what?
Micah: Well, I have already tried editing and writing, and I still write now and am currently working on some children's books and a travel/cookbook. I often write poetry and paint fabrics, but I have yet to find how these things will put my daughter through school!

The Bald Chef

Well, it seems the latest fashion in the kitchen is a bald head. When the season premiered I thought it was the mohawk but between judges, chefs and production staff the “q ball” has it. If you think about it though it really works well: no hair nets, simple upkeep and no real risk of contaminating the food...unless you count sweat. But why not, really? I like it and think it can be a very sexy look...just ask my husband.

It seems to be a growing trend among cheftestants. The first season it was just Colicchio sporting the look. And then last season started with Tom and Cliff and ended with the questionable addition of Ilan and Elia. Maybe the disastrous head shaving episode started the staff thinking the more chefs already bald, the less risk of traumatic events and the cliched “Bravo drama”. So, this group has started with Tre and Howie added to Tom and the production guy with a few mohawks thrown in for good measure. Here’s hoping camp antics stay at a minimum.

But the real question should be is Tom starting a trend? More cheftestants with little or no hair, former cheftestants with shorter hair and lets just face it...Tom is everywhere: Food Festivals, morning shows, and he even guest judged on Bravo’s Top Design...the show was “eh” but seeing him was “yay”. Maybe he should start a fan club or his own makeover show....
Chef Eye for the Bald Guy:
He can’t make you look good
but he sure will make you cook good.

I think the inspiration comes from the fact that Tom is such a decent guy. A good chef with an even keeled personality and a friendly smile could sell soured milk on a corner outside a dairy. But Tom doesn’t allow his success to over-inflate his ego into haughty behavior at the judges table. He stays calm and when he does critique the style is such that the chef’s almost seem to want to thank him for not liking their dish.

So, shave away everyone. If it means that with it comes the other traits of this original “Top Chef”, then what have you got to lose...except a little hair.

Episode 3 - Fresh Sea And Mom's Old Recipe

Three familiar faces but all in different places.

Congratulations to Chef Brian for the Fresh Seafood Quick Fire win.

You did it Chef Howie. The Elimination challenge and another set of books.

What is with the books? Why didn't Brain get books last week?

Ah... Chef Micah. We did not see this one coming.

Now you can get off the roller coaster and enjoy the rest of the season with us. We wish you all the best.

Thanks to everyone who joined the live chat party. We had a great time.

Top Chef Episode 3 - It Is Hot Tub Time

Before we kick back and enjoy episode 3 "Family Favorites" ... there are a few things we have learned from episodes 1 and 2.

Chef Tom is still hot but needs a hat when in the sun. Padma's wardrobe has improved - think she read Tim Gunn's book? TED IS BACK and will be trading places with Gail as judge each week.

Micah has been in the "win a QF - be in the bottom QF circle - make the top EC circle". Her head must be spinning.

Hung is riding high with a QF win and in the top EC circle but we are still waiting for the bad guy to come out. Maybe tonight? Remember, you promised us in the promo.

Brain and Tre have exchanged places from coming close to packing their knives to Elimination wins. Oh, the highs and lows of Top Chef.

Clay and Sandee are gone. We really did want to get to know each of you better.

These two just have issues. If you wish to see the whole argument, Click HERE
Pull it together Howie and Joey. This is not how you want to spend your 15 minutes.

and these 7 need to step it up. Sara N. did make the EC top circle last week and Dale made the EC pack your knives circle the first week. Casey has a "Bewitch nose twitch" that is not working and CJ wishes he was 5'3 instead of 6'8 but...

Stop lying around and show us what you can do.

We know, it's an editing thing.

Something tells us we will learn more about a few of you in the hot tub tonight. Now the biggest debate around every water cooler and coffee bar this week - was that BBQ or Grilling?

And last, we have learned...

Click HERE to see if you read this the same way we do. So really enjoy the show tonight because it will be 2 weeks until episode 4.

Now the questions we ask you each Wednesday...

Please join us tonight for our Top Chef Live Chat Party here on the blog. The post for the Live chat will go up before the show begins (eastern time). Bring your snacks, cocktails, bathing suite (for the hot tub) and be ready to chat about the show!!!

Since it is summer time and we have had a fruit QF challenge, check out these wonderful servings at Edible Arrangements.

There may be a store near you.

He's Back!! Ted Allen Is Judging This Week

We loved him in season 2. In fact, loved him so much we started a petition that many of you signed.

Tomorrow night he is back to swap places with Gail and to judge espisode 3 of Top Chef.

Ah... We can not wait!!!

Think he will have issues with the additional ingredient Howie is adding to his food?

Need a little Ted before tomorrow night? Let Ted show you how to set up your first kitchen.

Oh and if he gets in the hot tub with the other Chefs... now that will be a bonus.
