Stephen seems to have matured a bit; whereas Ilan's behavior was infantile at its best, munching on products from the shelf, invading Team One's space, spilling Marcel's mangos, showing complete ineptness with the duck, and wearing a white boy's version of a ghetto hair cut. Really, Ilan. Grow up.
That was me, by the way, team.
I loved that Stephen and Marcel were matched head to head. If Marcel was cast as the "Stephen" of season 2, he fell far short of the mark, as Stephen has grown and learned from the process, and Marcel is still a jerk (although not on Ilan's level).
Also, in light of Marcel's issues with Ilan, I was thrilled to see Stephen beat him with a dish that featured saffron!
I have already given my west coast conterpart orders to visit Stephen's wine store when it opens and send me a box of his recommendations!!!Woohoo!
Chef Back Burner
Wish a judge would've mentioned the fact that Elia's winning scallop dish was a retread of something she did for a S2 competition (catering the Hollywood party).
For all his arrogance, Ilan got served by practically everyone on the show, and his BFFs didn't bail him out on the duck. Great stuff.
Hard to believe that Season 2 chefs are still so annoying, immature, and ridiculous, that they make STEPHEN look CLASSY, and Tiffani and Dave look professional and refined. Seeing Marcel make an absolute FOOL of himself, verbally and in the kitchen, reminded me again how very much I enjoyed the final five chefs from Season 1. Grow up, Marcel. And learn to shut your absurd mouth. Let your food speak for your talent. Oh, wait. Foam and gelee? Never mind. You have NOTHING to say.
The thing that bothered me the most was the quickfire winners got so much of an advantage. That pretty much determined the winner. 3 of the 4 catagories were close calls, and season 2 lost 2 of them. Could that much more money have turned the tide, seems at least possible.
What everyone seems to miss is season 2 was dominated by Alpha males. Ilan, Sam and Marcel fought like guys do. Harold didnt have anyone to bounce off of.
