If the inside information is to be believed, it sounds to me, too, like a better offer came Sam's way and he dumped his business partners for greener grass. Trustworthy, reliable, and Sam Talbot--words that do not fit together well.
It reads as if Sam and his partners didn't reach a crucial agreement. No blame was placed on anyone. Is Sam the catalyst for the change? I'd like to read more before passing judgment.
Ms. Place, Did you read the New York Post article linked after the original Eater announcement, which said "Talbot originally signed on to open the spot with club Fat Baby's Rob Shamlian and his brother, Library Bar owner Will. But insiders say, "Sam was being lured by big-name restaurateurs at the 11th hour. **Sam has something coming up, and it's going to be a lot bigger than a restaurant.**" Spitzer's, opening June 1, is now hunting for a replacement chef.
You're right in saying that we don't know for sure what went down, but it sounds like Sam's hopping onto another train pretty quick, if he didn't leave the restaurant deal specifically for it.
I suspect the 'parting ways' statement is similar to the one made when someone is fired (or forced to resign): "He's leaving to pursue other interests."
The key word is Insiders - that could be someone from Shamlian crowd trying to spin the story their way, it could be someone from Sam's crowd trying to make it sound like Sam is still in demand despite the break up of a business deal or it could just be unverified gossip. The original Eater story hinted that Sam got the boot and now the Post makes it sound like Sam walked away, they both "sound" like spin if you ask me.
Thank you Melanie and anonymous: I find that the "spin" is always in favor of the spinner. Who knows? This is an interesting post and I reserve judgment on both parties until we know more.
I love this blog. But then, I adore the ladies who created it.

Parted ways, is what I read into the article.
