No Ordinary Day In The Sun
Congratulations to Chef Marcel
for his first Quick Fire Challenge win.
Congratulations to Chef Elia for her
Elimination Challenge win.
This is two in a row for her.
You both earned a little fun.
Chef Frank, you know
this was a picture we had hoped never to post.

Best of luck to you Chef Frank.

TC Moderators - I am kind of surprised you would think you would not be posting Frank's picture as having been eliminated when one considers the other chefs against whom he is/was competing. I also found Frank's exit interview a surprise...did he not know the premise of the show? He thought he was just going in to cook food in his style. Before the whole Marcel thing got out of control, I was a Frank fan, but he has shown himself to be a not very nice person. I do wish him luck and think he will have it as he seems to be pretty good at self promotion.
One of the things I love about this blog is that you provide everything. Thanks for the link to the Chow interview. Learned a lot more about Frank. Keep up the great work ladies.
Did not realize chow was a part of CNET. My heart goes out to the family and friends of a man who was a true Top Hero and one to be emulated by all. What a loss to everyone who knew him personally and those who only knew him by his work.
Was anyone here as excited as me when Marcel won the quick fire? (I'm serious...)
In response to anon 12:09, I was NOT excited to see Marcel win with his hunk of watermelon. Even some of the others chefs thought it was stupid. I mean come on, watermelon? I actually thought that Frank & Cliff had the best dishes. And the judges are getting on my last nerve. Wether it's the QF challenge or the E challenge, do they actually think that they could do better given the same circumstances? I think not. I think that all the chefs did a pretty good job considering that they didn't have a clue as to where they would be cooking. And then to put them on the beach with open fire pits, you gotta give them credit for coming up with the dishes that they did. I would love to see Tom and Gail go head to head in that same challenge! Frank exited like a true gentleman and after listening to the Chow interview, I am a bigger fan of his then I was before.

I send no luck out to Frankie the Bull. Now that he's off the show I wonder if he'll come up with more versions of the Marcel threat incident to clear his name. He's an uglier, less talented version of Keith Michael. I'm glad he went last night - now if Betty goes next, then the show will be watchable.
I thought everyone was over the Frank thing...I guess I was wrong...
Well, I will agree with you one thing...Betty really is quite annoying...I think it's the size of her smile that gets to me...A little manic looking...lol
Ditto both your comments, Chef Back Burner.
I usually agree with everything said on here, but I have to respectfully disagree with one point of chef back burner's. I actually really like Betty. She is a comfort food cook, and I don't think she will last long in this competition since it will get more into fine dining as they move. I like her, and I think she at least brings an interesting twist to the show.
I do agree though, that it was not the best thing for her to throw people under the bus so to speak in the Thanksgiving episode. And although I semi-understand Marcel, I can understand how she could be annoyed with him. It is equal parts both ways on their parts.
My problem is still with Mia, how could she throw Betty's out to the wolves and then team up with her? So weird, and just doesn't work in my mind.

Penny, I agree that the judges can be overly critical at times but in this challenge they clearly said how impressed they were with most of the dishes. Gail said it was the best food from this whole season.
I'm curious as to whether the judges paletes were pleased because they weren't expecting anything good...therefore fooling their minds into thinking it was the best food all season...or if it was actually the best food all season.
I wonder if you sat down with Elia's waffle and compared it to say...Ilan and Mike's paella and soft shell crab...would it be comparable?
I think you're absolutely right, Chef Back Burner; I'm sure they were overly impressed with the food because they had low expectations. Elia's dish sounded a bit like an Egg McMuffin. But an Egg McMuffin is pretty damn tasty early in the morning on the beach. I just appreciated that the judges actually seemed to take the difficulty of the challenge into consideration this week. Often they don't; they wonder why they are not getting food worthy of the finest restaurant when the chefs were working with really difficult restrictions.
